My Thoughts on Food Prep
Last night was SO MUCH FUN teaching my Nourish By Jill Practical Food Prep. It is incredible to teach about a subject I feel passionate about...Food, heath and wellness. More importantly how to prepare food for the week so that your food life isn't something that adds stress to your week.
Most of us with jobs, family, and busy lives don't always have the time to fix a fully nutritious meal from start to finish. I know this is true, because I have spoken with thousands of women who get frustrated at getting busy and grabbing food when they feel like a food emergency arrives.
No plan means grabbing the chips and grabbing the easiest food possible which usually isn't something that will fuel our bodies the way they need to be fueled.
Food prep doesn't have to be pretty mason jar salads and perfectly portioned containers. It can be a simpler plan of knowing what protein, carbs, and fats to make ahead of time, so that your fridge is always ready to grab and go.
One of the easiest ways to plan ahead for the week is to start with vegetables. If you have your lettuce washed, your produce cut, and several vegetables to choose from for your salad, omelette or stir fry you will be giving yourself the chance to be nourished.
If you master the vegetables being cut and prepared you can move on to having the right proteins prepared for easy grab and go salads, bowls, soups, or stir fry.
Lastly, if you master the vegetable, and protein you can move onto the grains. Think of steaming rice and making a flavorful farrow to have on hand for several days after you make it.
Once you understand the fuel and food your body needs and you take small steps the fridge becomes a pallet for you to choose from. You are the designer so the world is literally your oyster.
In a nutshell practical food prep means having the right foods around so that you can feel like you are nourishing your body and getting the most out of the food you eat. It doesn't have to be complicated. Nourish By Jill believes that Simple = Successful.
